Three cruise ships, two from Holland America Line and one from Lindblad Expeditions, reported cases of a gastrointestinal illness. A total of 148 passengers and crew members contracted the illness.

Holland America Line reported to USA Today that 76 people aboard the Eurodam cruise ship, including passengers and crew, experienced symptoms of norovirus, including vomiting, cramps, and diarrhea.

The vessel departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on April 12. The company stated that most of the cases had been resolved.

“We initiated enhanced sanitization protocols in collaboration with the CDC to minimize transmission, including continuous disinfection of the ship,” the company said in an email to the newspaper.

Another Holland America cruise ship, the Zuiderdam, reported that 55 of the 1,149 passengers fell ill during the current cruise, along with 14 crew members. Besides diarrhea, no other symptoms were reported.

The National Geographic Sea Lion ship, operated by Lindblad Expeditions, reported that two of the 43 guests and one crew member experienced symptoms such as fever, vomiting, and diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The cruise vessel is headed to Alaska, according to CruiseMapper.

In 2025 alone, there have been 16 outbreaks of gastrointestinal illnesses on cruise ships, most caused by norovirus.
